I was absolutely riveted and fascinated by the film, not to mention the bearded beatnik in Brighton and the very memorable music. Great. Little did parents know what was to come as the sixties and early seventies progressed with real promiscuity, defiance and that awful long long hair! Happy days.

I really enjoy your blogs and it makes me homesick for Sri Lanka when I hear all your news, so I will hope to catch up with you when I return at the end of May.

Loved the doco and once one got beyond the accents, thought it very well produced and thoughtful. Many of the kids could have been me. Especially those from up t'north-- Northampton. I was 16 in 1960 and doing precisely as they were with the same problems.

Soundtrack was terrific. Adam Faith AND Lonnie!

Thought the joke shop beard was a bit over the top though.

Kind regards and keep the Tropical Topics coming.

It is always a pleasure to read your posts, so refreshing & different though you seem to be inclined more towards food. I am enjoying it. where's svetlana???

There's a mall opposite my house (only food court). On a trip to buy some ice cream late in the night last weekend, guess what did I find in a open sale? "The Bond Master " by Richard Tresillian, Warner Books printed in USA (1977 copyright). I bought it. Will start reading soon. Pleasant surprise indeed!!

I've been meaning to convey to you my sincere appreciation of your newsletter that arrives every Sunday and is read, believe it or not, before I dive into the Sunday papers which provide a full measure of aggravation which lasts the rest of the week! I like to think that your little 'letter provides me with some reinforcement in the way of civility that gives me protection against much of the **** in the English-language weeklies!

I have yet to receive one of your newsletters about which I can complain and those who know me say yours must be a truly exceptional production for that reason alone!

I have really enjoyed reading your blog this morning and, when I can cobble a chunk of continuous time together this weekend, I hope to read much more of it.Having been to SL for a minimum of three weeks every year since 2004 certain aspects of Sri Lankan life have become quite familiar. Now that the "peace dividend" is bringing more tourists in to the country the mid-level places where I have always stayed are at present, in my view, ridiculously overpriced.

Hope you had a lovely birthday Royston and belated many happy returns!
Thanks for the interesting article re Lavender House - as a child my aunt and uncle lived there (he was a planter - Sam Rajiah) and I spent many happy holidays there and it was interesting to read your article in the times and see how the house has been renovated.
This place will be a must for me when we visit in December.
